WHO?

All citizens are at risk, especially during COVID-19, but those who are unemployed, disadvantaged, down on their luck, underpaid are most vulnerable.

GOAL

Lessen the impact of the COVID-19 recession and make shelter, food and clean water a Basic Human Right.

SOLUTION

Implement Universal Basic Income in COVID-19 support packages and future economic recover packages

During the pandemic, the wealth of Canada’s top billionaires grew by $53 billion between April and October of last year, an increase of 28%

In a number of cases, the same billionaires who profited during the pandemic also moved quickly to cut pandemic pay for their low-paid workers, who continue to expose themselves to significant risks at work

A universal basic income (UBI) is a fixed income that every adult (rich or poor, working or idle) automatically receives from the government.

Universal Basic Income is a solution (supported by many experts including Nancy Pelosi, Milton Freedman, Pope Francis, Bill Gates) to save ordinary hard working citizens from a COVID-19 caused recession, eliminate poverty and support people who lose their jobs to technological advances.

We know the alternatives are corporate bailouts, which since 2008 has served to widen the income gap and one time payments, which will not be sufficient to restart the economy.

The assumption of UBI is that it gets money into the hands of consumers who directly care for themselves through spending, which in turn, powers the economy. It has enormous potential and is supported by many experts.
