WHAT?

Located on unceded Pacheedaht and Ditidaht territory, Fairy Creek is now facing a threat from logging supported by the BC government [1].

Logging these old-growth forests poses severe damage on the people, history, biodiversity, and ecosystems surrounding them! Some of the most at-risk ecosystems are located in the Old Growth forests and MUST be protected! [1]

WHO is Affected?

Indigenous peoples, protestors and demonstrators, surrounding wildlife and ecosystems, and you!

    GOAL

Change the status quo. Our actions aim to protect and propel a vision where long-term actions preserving the environment are prioritized over short-term economic gain.

    SOLUTION

We must turn our attention and support to the Fairy Creek Blockade, where demonstrators are actively protesting the intrusion of police and logging companies onto the ground of old growth forests.

We must also pressure decision-makers to halt intensive logging happening in BC and across Canada!

Old growth forests play a crucial role in our ecosystems, providing fundamental natural services like carbon sequestration, habitat for wildlife, and important cultural value for Indigenous peoples and nature-lovers.

What started as a fight to protect the intact Fairy Creek Watershed has expanded into a fight to protect the last 2.7% of old growth” – @fairycreekblockade

    CBC

“A total of 158 people have now been arrested since RCMP began enforcing a British Columbia court injunction ordering the removal of blockades

Activists say Fairy Creek is the last unprotected, intact old-growth valley on southern Vancouver Island

    The Narwhal

“Police enforcement comes after forestry company Teal Jones obtained a court injunction banning blockades of logging activities in the two watersheds.

“A coalition of press freedom groups and Canadian news organizations […]  announced it would file legal action to allow journalists substantive access to report on the continuing demonstrations, noting the RCMP’s broad use of exclusion zones has prevented journalists from doing their jobs.”
