“Together, we can uplift and support each other to strengthen a global movement to interrupt sexual violence.”

CAUSE SUMMARY
Survivors of sexual violence need access to the necessary resources in order to aid the healing process that comes from the trauma they have been through. With these resources available, one of the many barriers to coming forward is also removed.
The powerful #metoo movement has always been aware of the need for more resources, stating on their About page, “Our vision from the beginning was to address both the dearth in resources for survivors of sexual violence…” (Me Too Movement)
Since the Me Too Movement explosion in 2017, “There has been a sizeable increase in demand on Canada’s sexual violence support services” (Canadian Women’s Foundation). Furthermore, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are affected by sexual violence (Government of Ontario). This statistic proves that sadly we live in a world where rampid and abundant sexual violence exists. Furthermore, “In some parts of Canada there are limited services or none at all.” (Canadian Women’s Foundation).
There is clearly a demand for survivors of sexual violence to access resources to aid in their healing and we can support survivors of sexual violence and encourge other survivors to come forward by:
- Supporting survivors of sexual violence by publicly offering support on their social media content or by creating original social media content that offers support tagging survivors
- Donating to organizations that support survivors by making resources to aid their healing available
These two actions will support survivors of sexual violence by giving them more access to resources that aid in their healing. With the knowledge that there are support measures in place, it will also help encourage them to come forward.

THE ISSUE
Numerous survivors of sexual violence don’t have access to the necessary resources to aid their healing. This creates a barrier to many survivors to come forward.
The powerful #metoo movement has always been aware of the lack of these resources, stating on their About page, “Our vision from the beginning was to address both the dearth in resources for survivors of sexual violence…” (Me Too Movement)
One of the positive effect of the #metoo movement gave many survivors a way to come forward. However, this led to an increase in demand for resources to aid in the survivors’ healing. “There has been a sizeable increase in demand on Canada’s sexual violence support services” (Canadian Women’s Foundation).
1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are affected by sexual violence (Government of Ontario). This statistic proves that sadly we live in a world where rampid and abundant sexual violence exists. Furthermore, “In some parts of Canada there are limited services or none at all.” (Canadian Women’s Foundation).
There is clearly a demand for survivors of sexual violence to access resources to aid in their healing.
THE GOAL
Increase the number of survivors of sexual violence who come forward and ensure they have access to the support and resources they need.
The Solution
First, by directly supporting survivors we will demonstrate that when a survivor comes, there will be an army of supporters behind her/him. Examples of direct support can include:
- Direct personal messages of support sent to a survivor
- Public support on social media through “I believe _survivors name or handle_”
- Financial donations to survivors in need (e.g. support to leave an abusive relationship or higher a lawyer)
Second, providing more resources and more access to resources to support survivors and aid in their healing: Examples include:
- Donating to organizations that support survivors
- Pressure lawmakers to create a process for survivors to receive fair consideration and protection to come forward that supports their healing
